A rare silver biscuit barrel, the work very much in the style of the Guild of Handicraft.
The Guild of Handicraft went into insolvency in 1907. Charles Ashbee left as did a number of craftsmen. George Hart kept the silversmithing department going but not all smiths stayed and found employment elsewhere. With such well trained carftsmen they found work with people like Ramsden & Carr, Birmingham Guild, and Lambert & Co. No actually records of who went where exist but, the fact that Lambert produced items like this biscuit barrel shows that they took on, at least, one skilled silversmith.
