NEWLYN COPPER ARTS & CRAFTS WALL MIRROR
£1,850
Arts & Crafts copper wall mirror, with bevelled mirror, and fish and shell decoration. Newlyn being a fishing village and the craftsmen being the local fishermen then decoration was typically an aquatic theme. The fact that this item is unmarked is normal for Newlyn mirrors and is somewhat baffling as this is large item and would have been one of the more expensive peices made, yet small trays and jugs are always marked.
Manufacturer | Newlyn |
Country of Manufacture | Cornwall, England |
Date | c. 1905 |
Marks | unmarked |
Condition | Perfect. The mirror was originally lacquored to keep a shiny finish and this lacquer has been slowly polished away over time. This accounts for the patches between the detail and can be seen in the photos. The backing is original but the back panel holding the mirror in had split its backing paper so this has been sealed down with black paper tape. |
